Surgery

General surgery

Our doctors are skilled surgeons who have successfully performed thousands of procedures. We provide state-of-the-art anesthesia and monitoring to ensure the health and safety of your pet.

Our updated anesthesia protocol includes the use of sevoflourane gas which is used routinely in human surgical suites. In addition, our advanced surgical monitoring includes pulse oximetry, EKG, and Doppler blood pressure. The use of a CO2 surgical laser has allowed us to greatly improve our patient care by decreasing surgical pain, bleeding, and recovery time.

Orthopedic surgery

We offer in-house orthopedic surgery by a board-certified veterinary surgeon.

Laser surgery

Kentlands Veterinary Hospital proudly offers laser surgery through the use of a state-of-the-art CO2 surgical laser. The use of a surgical laser means less bleeding during surgery and since the laser seals the lymphatic tissue there is less post operative swelling. The laser seals the nerve endings as it cuts, reducing post operative pain as well. This makes healing much more comfortable.

Laser surgery allows for some procedures, otherwise requiring a general anesthetic, to done exclusively with the use of local anesthetic. This is often desirable as there is little to no recovery period and the patient can be sent home in a short period of time.

There are some procedures where the use of the surgical laser has dramatically improved the quality of the surgery resulting in a more desirable outcome. Declawing in the cat is one of these procedures. The usage of tourniquets and post-operative bandaging are no longer necessary with the advent of the surgical laser. Most patients are walking comfortably the day of surgery.
